Tibu Africa and Peace and Sport will bring the voice of field actors to the United Nations headquarters on the occasion of the International Day of Sport for Development and Peace.
Tibu Africa and Peace and Sport will join the “Scoring for People and the Planet” conference organized by the United Nations Department of Global Communications and the Department of Economic and Social Affairs, with the support of the Permanent Missions of the Principality of Monaco and the State of Qatar to the United Nations, on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the International Day of Sport for Development and Peace
Tibu Africa’s President, Amine Zariat, as a partner of the Peacemakers Project deployed by Peace and Sport on three continents, will speak about the program’s progress and also the obstacles that hinder the use of sport as a means of empowerment for girls and women. As part of Peace and Sport’s “bottom-up” approach, this intervention, which is in touch with the realities on the ground, should provide a detailed viewpoint and recommendations to feed diplomats and stakeholders.
With the Girls CAN project, Tibu Africa carries out sport-based actions that promote the empowerment and professional integration of young Moroccan girls and women in NEET situations. Peace and Sport supports these activities through the implementation of peace through sport sessions. A total of 36 girls aged 20 to 25 and 204 girls aged 14 to 18, who have dropped out of school, have already benefited from the program.
“I am pleased to be the voice of change-makers and social innovators through sport. There are many of them creating a strong and lasting impact in their communities. This is an opportunity to pay tribute to the local sport associations, schools, educators and facilitators who are developing innovative programs and approaches to use sport as a lever for human, social and economic development.
It is a great honor to be invited at the United Nations, the seat of international solidarity, on the occasion of the celebration of the 10th anniversary of the International Day of Sport for Development and Peace, to present to the world the African potential for boosting human capital through sport.” said Mohamed Amine Zariat, Founding President of the NGO Tibu Africa.
“I invite all Member States to join us at our Education through Sport Summit in Africa, scheduled for May 25-28, 2023 in Morocco, to experience first-hand our solutions and programs focused on education, professional integration and entrepreneurship of youth and women through sport,” he added.
The President and Founder of Peace and Sport, Joël Bouzou, will give the closing speech at a UNDESA event in New York, on the sidelines of the “Scoring for the People and the Planet” conference. In his speech, he will highlight the role of sport in the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals.
“Over the past decade, the recognition of sport as a tool for building a culture of peace has grown considerably, as demonstrated by the annual mobilization on the International Day of Sport for Development and Peace. Our #WhiteCard campaign, which is anchored on this day, reminds us of the significant influence that sport can have on our societies, and the responsibility of each and every one of us to commit to the creation of a better and more sustainable future,” recalled the President and Founder of Peace and Sport, Joël Bouzou.
“Today we are convinced that sport is a vector for social change and on April 6 we want to reaffirm the importance of better responding to the needs of actors on the field and providing concrete solutions. We must dedicate ourselves to teaching peace, training, evaluating and financing. It is also this observation that we wish to bring before the institutions, 10 years after the creation of the International Day of Sport for Development and Peace,” he added.
Her Excellency Mrs. Isabelle Picco, Permanent Representative of Monaco to the United Nations, declared: “It is a great pride to celebrate this year the 30th anniversary of the Principality’s admission as a UN Member State and the tenth anniversary of the International Day of Sport for Development and Peace, which had been carried by the Monaco Mission and proclaimed by the UN General Assembly in 2013. The growing recognition of the contribution of sport in the documents adopted by the UN shows how important sport is in achieving the goals and principles of peace, economic and social development and sustainability.”
The commitment of the Ambassador, H.E. Mrs. Isabelle Picco, who co-chairs the Group of Friends of Sport for Sustainable Development since 2010, makes the Mission of Monaco a particularly recognized actor in this field.
