2020 PEACE AND SPORT AWARDS CELEBRATION IS NOW OVER!
This year began with a worldwide pandemic, forcing us to reconsider our lifestyles, our conception of what matters and our relations to others. In these challenging times, sport remains a universal language which role is even more vital to promote essential values such as respect, unity and solidarity.
Through this celebration of the Peace and Sport Awards, the peace-through-sport community proved its ability to stay active and connected in order to share best practices contributing to peace, dialogue and social change in the world through sport.
This 2020 edition appointed the Argentinian soccer prodigy and captain of FC Barcelona, Lionel Messi, as Champion for Peace of the Year, and it rewarded 4 outstanding initiatives:

“It is an honour to receive the “Champion for Peace of the Year” Award. Respect towards the others is something I have learnt when I was a kid, and I always try to apply this important value on the football pitch. It’s a pleasure to be recognised for being a fair player. I thank Peace and Sport and H.S.H. Prince Albert II of Monaco for this Award and I look forward to continuing inspiring and supporting disadvantaged people.”
Lionel Messi – Champion for Peace of the Year
“We are very humbled and honoured to receive this Special Jury Prize recognition from Peace and Sport. The events of this year tested all of us, and we wanted fans to stay inspired, to keep moving, to stay strong – both physically and mentally. For Olympic Day, we wanted to emphasize that we can still all come together and participate in sport together – no matter our circumstances. To provide a little extra motivation we asked top Olympians and athletes to join us in a social-first activation, bringing fans and their favourite athletes together for an unforgettable 24-hour live workout challenge across 20 global time zones”
Olympic channel – Special Jury Prize
“It is an incredible honour to make such an impact on the lives of thousands, perhaps millions of people, by promoting peace and quality of life through sport. The Kosovo Olympic Committee has touched hearts, minds, inspired generations and made everyone question the status quo, even during the pandemic, by involving people living in Kosovo and all over the world. Sport has the power to change lives and, on behalf of the Olympic family and Kosovo, we thank the Peace and Sports Awards team. We feel very honoured and grateful to the jury and we bow down to voters around the globe who were inspired and who shared their support for peace through sport by voting for us. Kosovo humbly thanks you all, inspired by excellence and the prospect of a better world together! We’ve won this together! Thank you! ”
Kosovo Olympic Committee – APRIL6 Initiative of the Year
“We are delighted to be the winners of the “Innovative Action of the Year” Award. Our “Sa7ti Friyadti” program was launched during the health crisis and has enabled more than 4,500 young people and families to adopt a healthy and active lifestyle using the fun and educational content developed by our agents for positive change through sport. I would like to thank the members of the jury as well as Peace and Sport for organizing this inspiring edition of Peace and Sport Awards in 2020”
TIBU Maroc – Innovative Action of the Year
“It is with great honor that we accept the Peace and Sport Award for our Football for Change outreach project sponsored by UEFA Foundation for Children. ISF believes in the power of sports to inform and enrich the lives of underprivileged youth, especially now as they may be feeling more marginalized and isolated during the pandemic. This award is a humbling recognition of the hard work and dedication of ISF’s passionate coaches who spread sport-for-good training to 200 rural coaches across Cambodia every year. I wish to thank the jury for awarding our project. It’s an honour to be recognized for our efforts to reach children across Cambodia with sport-for-good lessons taught by local mentors. We’re incredibly grateful.”
