2020 PEACE AND SPORT AWARDS CELEBRATION IS NOW OVER!

This year began with a worldwide pandemic, forcing us to reconsider our lifestyles, our conception of what matters and our relations to others. In these challenging times, sport remains a universal language which role is even more vital to promote essential values such as respect, unity and solidarity.

Through this celebration of the Peace and Sport Awards, the peace-through-sport community proved its ability to stay active and connected in order to share best practices contributing to peace, dialogue and social change in the world through sport.

This 2020 edition appointed the Argentinian soccer prodigy and captain of FC Barcelona, Lionel Messi, as Champion for Peace of the Year, and it rewarded 4 outstanding initiatives:

  • The NGO ISF Cambodia received the Sport for Development and Peace Program of the Year Award for its project, Football for Change;
  • The NGO TIBU Maroc won the prize for Innovative Action of the Year for its “Sa7ti Friyadti” project of empowerment through sport;
  • The Kosovo National Olympic Committee obtained the most votes in the APRIL6 Initiative of the Year category for organizing a creative #WhiteCard contest;
  • And the Olympic Channel was rewarded with the Special Jury Prize for its online campaign, The Olympic Day Workout.

Awards categories

The annual Peace and Sport Awards reward organizations and individuals who have made an outstanding contribution to peace, dialogue and social change in the world through sport.

rewards individuals and organizations who have contributed to the celebration of April 6, the International Day of Sport for Development and Peace, through a #WhiteCard initiative or an event that raises awareness on the use of sport as a tool for development and peace.

rewards an individual or an organization who uses new technologies or which develops innovative ways to promote sport as a tool for sustainable peace, education and social development.

rewards a sport for development and peace program that has a positive impact for communities, teaching values through sport exercises and using equipment adjusted to the local environment.

rewards an athlete who has led a significant and sustainable sport initiative towards peaceful change.
