Joël Bouzou takes part in first Vatican Conference about Faith and Sport

Oct 6, 2016 | News

Joël Bouzou, President and Founder of Peace and Sport, and H.S.H. Prince Albert II of Monaco, Patron of the organization, are currently participating in the first ever global conference on Faith and Sport that is taking place in the Vatican this week, from 5 to 7 October. Called ‘Sport at the Service of Humanity,’ this event is hosted by the Pontifical Council for Culture with the support of the United Nations and the International Olympic Committee (IOC).

Pope Francis kicked off the conference’s opening ceremony yesterday with U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon and Thomas Bach, President of the IOC.

In addition to discussing how faith and sport can work together, this Vatican conference aims to launch a movement to develop – through sport – life skills, character, values and enjoyment of life, inspiring people to live in accordance with six principles: compassion, respect, love, enlightenment, balance and joy.

Many Champions for Peace will also attend this unique event, among the 150 leading figures gathered on this occasion, such as Charmaine Crooks, Tegla Loroupe, Donna De Varona, Kash Siddiqi and Honey Thaljieh.
