Grace Geyoro, Champion for Peace 2025: harnessing sport to empower young people and promote inclusion

Dec 5, 2025 | News

Grace Geyoro, midfielder for the French national team and a leading figure in women’s soccer, was awarded the title of Champion for Peace 2025 by Peace and Sport, in the presence of H.S.H. Prince Albert II of Monaco. This distinction recognizes her exceptional commitment both on and off the field, particularly in support of vulnerable populations and youth in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

An exemplary sporting career

At 28, Grace Geyoro has over 100 caps for France and recently joined London City Lionesses in a record transfer during the summer of 2025. A locker-room leader, she embodies the values of excellence, fair play, and cohesion promoted by Peace and Sport. On December 2, 2025, with the French national team, she earned a third-place in the Football Nations Cup.

Social commitment and the launch of the Pow-Her, Be Gr8 association

For several years, Grace has been supporting local initiatives in France and the Democratic Republic of Congo. In 2025, she decided to formalize her commitment by creating Pow-Her, Be Gr8, an association that aims to use sport as a tool for education, cohesion, and inclusion. She also published the book “Croire en ses rêves” (Believing in one’s dreams), inspiring young people to pursue their ambitions against all odds.

A mission to the Democratic Republic of Congo

This year, Grace Geyoro led a mission to Kinshasa and Lubumbashi, in partnership with Peace and Sport and the “JJPC – Je Joue Pour le Congo”, to assess the needs for sports infrastructure and youth programs, while engaging with local stakeholders to prepare sustainable actions. Her assessment is clear: in a fragile social context, Congolese youth show a strong demand for structured sports activities, highlighting the importance and urgency of developing projects that promote education, inclusion, and social cohesion.

Grace Geyoro said:

Receiving the title of Champion for Peace 2025 is a tremendous honor. Beyond the award itself, it is a powerful encouragement to continue with my commitment to young people, particularly in the Democratic Republic of Congo. I am deeply grateful to H.S.H. Prince Albert II and to Peace and Sport for their support and trust. Their guidance has given a new dimension to my work and enabled me to turn my convictions into concrete projects.”

Didier Drogba, Vice President of Peace and Sport

Grace Geyoro joins the large family of Champions for Peace today, and this is something that makes our organization very proud. Her commitment to young people shows that the power of sport extends far beyond the lines of a playing field. Through her actions, she embodies a new generation of athletes who inspire young people in Africa and around the world.
