To mark the International Day of Sport for Development and Peace, celebrated annually on April 6, Peace and Sport and Provale are announcing a groundbreaking partnership aimed at mobilizing the French professional rugby community around the global #WhiteCard campaign.

International players Lénaïg Corson, Gaël Fickou, Yacouba Camara, Antoine Zeghdar, and Romane Ménager have answered the call. They will participate in several initiatives designed to raise public awareness of the essential role of sport in education, inclusion, and the building of more peaceful societies.

Learning, playing, growing up in peace: a right for every child

In many parts of the world, millions of children are growing up in environments marked by conflict, instability, or exclusion. Access to education and safe environments often remains precarious in these areas. In this context, the #WhiteCard campaign reinforces a simple and universal belief: “Playing sports means building the future.”
Beyond its symbolism, raising a White Card—this white card that embodies peace—serves as a reminder that sport is a powerful tool for instilling fundamental values such as empathy, cooperation, and resilience.

These are all essential skills for fostering the emergence of more inclusive, united, and peaceful societies.

“Sport has a unique power: the power to bring people together across differences and to instill essential values in younger generations. Through the #WhiteCard campaign, we want to remind everyone that every child should be able to learn, play, and grow up in a safe environment. The commitment of French rugby players alongside Peace and Sport and Provale helps spread this universal message and demonstrate that sport can be a true driver of peace.” Joël Bouzou, President and Founder of Peace and Sport

From the Field to Society: Rugby in the Service of Peace

As a team sport, rugby is founded on essential principles: fairness for all under the rules, respect for those rules, and respect for the opponent. Both on and off the field, these values shape the game and help make rugby a sport renowned for its spirit of solidarity and collective commitment. This legacy will be highlighted in a digital campaign, #WhiteCard, led by professional rugby players. Through their stories and their commitment, they will remind us how the values of rugby can inspire younger generations and help promote a culture of respect and peace.

As a partner in this initiative, Provale, the national union of professional rugby players, is joining forces with Peace and Sport to encourage athletes to carry this message and demonstrate that sport can be a powerful vehicle for education, social cohesion, and dialogue between communities.

“Rugby players embody strong values of respect, solidarity, and responsibility. By joining the #WhiteCard campaign alongside Peace and Sport, they remind us that sports can play a tangible role in bringing people together and instilling essential values in younger generations. It is also a way to demonstrate that athletes’ commitment can help build a more peaceful and inclusive society.” Malik Hamadache, President of Provale
