Dear Friends,
The month of May was rich in news for the world of peace through sport, illustrating the great effort of members of our platform, notably Sports Federations, Governments, Champions for Peace and many others who work actively to put sport at the heart of their actions for peace.
Our sporting spirit drives us to meet new challenges each day and to go even further in our commitment. Peace and Sport wants to make sport a reality for all young people by developing the innovative concept of adapted practices and materials. Whatever your resources, regardless of the country you’re in, you should be able to play sport.
We therefore work with Federations and stakeholders on the ground to produce educational materials, pioneering technical tools that make use of local natural resources to make many sports available to a wider audience and so develop them in new regions of the world.
As you will read in this newsletter, sport is already a fantastic catalyst for change all over the globe:
- In East Timor, thousands of people of all ages took part in the second "Run for Peace" in Dili initiated by the former President of the Republic and Nobel Peace Prize-winner, H.E. José Ramos Horta.
- In Tehran, the Federation of Amateur Muaythai of Asia (FAMA) and the Iranian Association of Muaythai jointly organized the first "Peace and Sport through Muaythai President's Cup" finishing with the release of doves, the ultimate symbol of peace and freedom.
- We launched our first photo competition "Add your Peace" on Facebook, enabling Internet users to express their vision of peace through sport.
- Finally, we are expecting numerous people in Sochi, Russian Federation, for the 6th Peace and Sport International Forum, where they will debate the concrete contribution that sport can make to the peace process.
More than ever, we must together spread the message that sport is the right tool to lay the foundations for sustainable peace!
Thank you, happy reading!
Sportingly yours,
Joël Bouzou,
President and Founder of Peace and Sport
President of the World Olympians Association (WOA)

The Run for Peace is gaining momentum in Dili!
On 12 May, just after the start of the 3rd Dili International Marathon, over 6,000 runners set off for the 5 km race, and nearly 2,000 runners for the 10 km race in the second Run for Peace organized as part of the "Dili Cty of Peace" campaign initiated by the former President of Timor-Leste and Nobel Peace Prize Recipient, H.E. José Ramos-Horta.
The Run for Peace was held a week before the official celebration of Timor Leste’s 10 years of independence. For Floriano da Costa Carvahlo, event organizer "it was great to see all these people peacefully celebrate life together. This is the best race we have had so far and I hope that Taci Tolu (Independence) celebrations will be like this."
