The Peace and Sport International Forum 2011: Ask for the programme!

Programme
Each year, the Peace and Sport International Forum endeavours to innovate and the 2011 edition is no exception!

The debates this year will be resolutely focused on youth, the guiding theme of this edition. How is it best to use sport for peace by taking into account the social environment of young people, their aspirations, new communication methods and their desire to control their own destiny? Many crucial questions will intersperse the debates of the Forum 2011.

Sports Champions and the Media, driving forces for peace-building through sport, will also be central to this 2011 edition. Delegates and panellists will brainstorm their roles and responsibilities and discuss about ways to increase their involvement.

Another debate certainly not to be missed, the Forum will dive into the burning issues of sports diplomacy, the Arab Spring and the role sport can play, relations between Israel and Palestine and much more.

In the same format as last year, three workshops will be dedicated to stakeholders in the field. They can present their specific problems, benefit from feedback from international experts and discover new methodologies.

A session dedicated to Networking and face-to-face meetings will also be available for delegates, to encourage direct contact, identify future partners and encourage cooperation between stakeholders.

Finally, for the first time, a ceremony will be held to pass the Peace and Sport flag to the city of Sochi, host of the Peace and Sport International Forum 2012, the first to be held outside Monaco.

Many surprises will enrich the proceedings. For a sneak preview, follow us on Twitter and Facebook

A Rendez-vous with Art at the Forum

Photo
For this year’s Forum particularly focused on youth, Peace and Sport will host an exceptional photo exhibition by young photographer Maud Bernos, dedicated to children living in vulnerable areas of the world and their daily involvement in sport.

The photographs, taken during the summer of 2011 in the Great Lakes region of Africa and in Israel-Palestine, highlight the faces of children who are at the very heart of our action and who are its infinite motivation. Without pathos or naivety, the photographer has successfully captured a child's ability to find magic in the darkest everyday reality and to transform a no man’s land into a playground.

The youngsters’ creativity and determination impregnate the images. In beautiful natural light, the photographer brings out their amused smiles, their dreamy or intrepid sides, their determined glances, their resounding laughter, and their real gestures.

With the simplicity of evidence, these photographs say better than 1,000 words how sport illuminates the path of peace, whether achieved alone or jointly.
