Who more than a top-level athlete realizes the power of sport to transcend the differences between skin colours, languages and religions? Who can convince vulnerable young people better than their idols that sport will help them to develop personal balance, find landmarks in life and integrate into the social environment? Who better than great sports legends can convince private-sector partners to sponsor programs for peace through sport? Who better than sports champions can rally the public around a cause?
Because the answer to these questions is undoubtedly "no-one!” the backbone of Peace and Sport’s action relies on our “Champions for Peace”.
With the "One Champion, One Project" initiative we offer great athletes the opportunity to go beyond the simple role of spokesperson. "One Champion, One Project" enables them to become actors for change by concretely investing in a specific tangible project that they themselves have chosen.
Whether fundraising, encouraging people to donate sports equipment, being the patron of an event, supporting a uni-discipline sports program deployed in several countries, or a multi-discipline sports program in one country, our "Champions for Peace" bring much more than their name to THEIR project.
With the help of Peace and Sport teams, they define the methodology and beneficiaries of a program and actively contribute to its development. They mobilize their networks and their fans to finance the project. They travel to the concerned region to meet local communities, authorities and potential investors. They share their experience with young people looking for positive role models and sources of inspiration.
"One Champion, One Project" enables Champions and their fans to become actors for peace through sport.
