Tunisia to host the 11th Peace and Sport International Forum in October 2018
Joel Bouzou, President and Founder of Peace and Sport, met His Excellency Mr. Béji Caid Essebsi, President of the Republic of Tunisia, at the presidential palace in Carthage on Monday 16th of October. The upshot of this meeting was an announcement that the 11th edition of Peace and Sport International Forum will be held in Tunisia in October 2018, following its candidature as a host country.
The organisation of the 11th Peace and Sport International Forum in Tunis sends a positive signal to the international community by strengthening the stabilization process of the country. The conference will bring together international decision makers in politics, business and sport as well as stakeholders from civil society. In a neutral environment, they will define means of action to make sport a pillar of youth education, intercommunity dialogue and social unity, in Tunisia and in the world.
During the meeting, the two leaders emphasized the importance of developing a legacy program to benefit Tunisian society based on ‘Sport Simple Solutions’ methodology developed by Peace and Sport. This project will aim at fostering dialogue, communication and youth education thanks to the adapted practice of sport requiring little financial resources and which positive social impact is already measured in other countries.
Bouzou said: “I warmly congratulate Tunisia for its commitment to organize an International Forum which gathers key figures from the world of peace and the world of sport. I am delighted that this 11th edition initiates the sustainable action of Peace and Sport in Tunisia.”
His Excellency Mr. Béji Caid Essebsi also welcomed the success of the Tunisian candidature and confirmed that he would bring his High Patronage to the organization of the Forum. He particularly emphasized the importance of initiating programs that mobilize youth around sports practice while developing the culture of democracy and citizenship.
The Peace and Sport International Forum brings together over 500 decision makers each year including Heads of State, Nobel Peace Prize-winners and top-level athletes, as well as representatives from international sports federations, international organizations and NGOs.
The 10th edition will be held in Monaco from 6 – 8 December 2017 with the theme of “Sport Innovation for Social Transformation”.
