Supported by our 3 Champions for Peace Paula Radcliffe, Tegla Loroupe and Wilson Kipketer, the 18 members of Team Peace and Sport ran the 2011 ING New York City Marathon and raised more than $50,000 for our field operations.
After months of training, the team met up in New York City on Friday November 4 and headed to the “The Expo” at the Jacob Javits Center. There, everybody registered for the race and got their running kits and, most importantly, their BIB numbers: the Holy Grail for all runners in the world, the entry to the world’s biggest and most famous marathon.
After a final training session with the Champions on Saturday 5 in Central Park under a beautiful blue sky (who better to train with than Paula and Tegla, totalling 5 NY Marathon victories between them?) all 18 teammates started the 26.2-mile race on Sunday November 6 at 9:40am sharp.
An amazing experience for everybody, truly a day to remember: surpassing their own limits for a good cause in the outstanding scenery of the Big Apple!
Peace and Sport warmly thanks all the members of our team and all those who generously sponsored them.
We’ll be back in 2012!
Put Sunday November 4, 2012 in your diary...
and start training!!
