Can the Olympic Games Move from an Era of Political Confrontation to one of Diplomatic Dialogue?
Beginning in 1956, various governments used the Olympics to call attention to their opposition to racism and foreign invasion. Were these protests appropriate or were athletes simply used as pawns? Did they achieve their political goals? Is this era of exploiting the Olympics over?
