Our Champion for Peace

DONNA DE VARONA

We need to keep the ladder up for the future generations

The youngest athlete at the 1960 Olympic Games, she went on to win 2 gold medals 4 years later in Tokyo. Not having access to a grant because they didn’t exist for female athletes at the time) she ended her career in 1965 and started campaigning for women’s rights. In 1974, she co-founded the Women’s Sport Foundation along with tennis legend Billie Jean King in order to increase the presence of women in sport.
