- The Peace and Sport Image of the Year Award
was last year given to Lamine DIACK, President of the IAAF, for his initiative that brought together the granddaughter of the German athlete Luz Long and the granddaughter of American champion Jesse Owens at the 2009 Athletics World Championships in Berlin, during the medal-giving on the podium for the long jump. The photograph perpetuates the courageous friendship between their grandfathers, which began during the 1936 Olympics, proving that the power of sport is stronger than hatred and extremism. The prize was awarded in partnership with SPORTELMonaco and Agence France-Presse.
