- The Peace and Sport Image of the Year Award
This prize was awarded for the historic handshake between Turkish President Abdullah Gül and Armenian President Serge Sarkissian on 6 September 2008 in Yerevan (Armenia) during the qualifying match for the World Cup between Turkey and Armenia. That moment ended nearly two decades of diplomatic silence, thanks to football.
The award was presented by HSH Prince Albert II of Monaco to both Mr. Armen Grigoryan, Minister of Sports and Youth Affairs of Armenia and Mr. Mahmut Özgen, President of the Turkish Football Federation.

The International Judo Federation for its "Judo for Peace” commission, which teaches the practice and values of judo to youngsters who are disadvantaged or made vulnerable by conflict, poverty and insecurity. Through its highly-developed educational approach, "Judo for Peace" has already helped thousands of young people from all over the world to become familiar with this sport and to learn respect for the opponent, discipline and the power of mental strength over physical force.

Rally Ireland, held in November 2007, which helped create a bridge between communities in Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland. The Organizing Committee for this event was the result of a joint candidature from Northern and Southern Ireland to the FIA, resulting in close cooperation between the two administrations, bringing together hundreds of volunteers and above all strengthening social cohesion between the two sides of the border. Rally Ireland showed the image of an island at peace after decades of conflict to millions of viewers. Political leaders of Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland also welcomed the rally as a major political event.

Serge Betsen and H.S.H. Prince Albert II of Monaco
- Award for the Non Governmental Organisation for Peace of the Year
Serge Betsen’s “Les Enfants de Biemassy". Originally conceived to make rugby more popular with disadvantaged youth in Cameroon, this project is now using this sport as a vehicle for social integration, personal development and access to education and training for thousands of children from poor areas of Yaounde. Although modest, the NGO has brought structure and stability into the lives of a hundred children using Serge Betsen’s popularity.
"Les Enfants de Biemassy" has since been renamed “The Serge Betsen Academy”.
